At Whitley Bay, M.Smithson LTD excavated for a below-ground attenuation tank — removing 180 tonnes of inert waste from a constrained site — then delivered the full external works package: drainage and manholes, kerbs and edgings, compacted stone sub-base, and machine-laid tarmac to the new car park and access road.
A tight, constrained site with the attenuation excavation at its heart. Every load of waste had to be carted off a live frontage, and the finished levels had to fall correctly to the new drainage across the whole car park.
The crew put the weekend in to get it over the line — tarmac went down mid-June and the site was handed over complete: a fully drained, surfaced car park with tidy margins, new fencing and planting borders. Finished June 2026.
