Groundworks & Drainage Package

The Job

M.Smithson LTD is delivering the full groundworks and external works package around a newly built modular facility at Westbury, Wiltshire. The works cover bulk excavation, surface-water drainage — including geocellular attenuation crates, inspection chambers and new pipe runs — plus concrete edgings, kerb lines and compacted stone sub-base ready for final surfacing.

The Challenge

Much of the drainage had to be installed in tight working corridors hard against the finished building, with dig, cart-away and backfill handled by our own JCB mini excavators and high-tip dumpers. Live areas of the site stayed operational around the works, and new fencing and edgings had to tie neatly into what was already built.

What We Delivered

• Bulk excavation and muck-away with our own plant fleet
• Geocellular attenuation crates installed in membrane-lined trenches
• New inspection chambers and surface-water pipe runs
• Concrete edgings and kerb lines throughout
• Compacted stone sub-base prepped for tarmac surfacing

The Result

The external works have progressed from first dig to a fully drained, kerbed and prepped site without holding up the wider project. Attenuation, chambers and pipe runs are in and tested, and the sub-base is ready for surfacing — a clean, coordinated package delivered by one crew with our own kit. Works are ongoing through summer 2026.
