On a fenced compound beside an existing campus building in Cambridge, M.Smithson LTD delivered a full groundworks package: site clearance and tarmac break-out, bulk excavation, then a dense grid of screw piles with galvanised caps, new utilities and reinforced concrete slabs.
The compound sat tight against occupied brick buildings, so piling, excavation and concrete pours all had to be sequenced around campus life. A new blue MDPE water main and drainage runs had to thread between the pile grid, and pours were pumped in from outside the compound.
From vegetation clearance in early June to cured, screeded slabs by late June, the compound went from tired hardstanding to a piled, serviced foundation platform in under a month — with our branded excavators, dumpers and piling kit on site throughout.
